This is a very nice teochew restaurant in a void deck of Bedok North, the yam and pumpkin dessert paste is really sinfully but to die for!
It’s another one of those Chinese eateries that allow bring your own bottle of wine and that is really great. I got a bottle of Rawson’s Retreat Merlot South Eastern Australia Vintage 2005 Penfolds from Cold Storage at about $23 special offer.

What a fantastic wine and ambience to go along with it! I had a glass of this wine at the very impressive hotel of the KL Hilton. To put you further into the mood for indulgence, the lounge had a live band singing the latest ballads.

Tasting notes:
Deep serious, intense red-blackish colour. Reminiscence of a dark & serious gentleman with a mature and dependable disposition. Finishing of slight tannins and a touch of spice.

Wine Entry : Wynham Estate Bin 888 Cabernet Merlot 1996 (Australia)

Purchased this bottle from Jason at S$35 many years ago. It is a nice wine with a very auspicious number in front as well.
But I’m still impressed with the quality of the wine, though it took a lot of effort to again get the wine as the cork had disintegrated, I have to sieve the wine and in addition to that used a kitchen towel to filter the really tiny pieces of cork. The wine retained a very deep dark reddish-brown colour, almost opaque to the light.

Smell :Mildy cherry aromas, plumy with a hint of sandlewood.

Taste : Smooth though a little flat lacking the fruit. Soft tannins easy to drink.

After-taste : Finish tasting of spice and a little bitterness, but full of warmth.

Description at the back of the label : Wynham Estate was established in 1828 when vines were planted on the banks of the Hunter River in the now famous Hunter Valley. Wynham Estate is recognized as Australia’s oldest operating winery.

Blended from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, this wine exhibits a complex bouquet of rich cherry and plum fruit with a violet floral background. The full flavours of Cabernet marry with the softer current characters of Merlot with hints of spice and chocolate brought together by fine oak tannins. This fisnish is soft and persistent. The 1996 Bin 888 has excellent cellaring potential with bottle age adding to the wine’s complexity. Cellaring potential 5 to 10 years.
